Combining their training in applied arts, crafts and architecture, Léa & Nicolas give shape to terracotta objects and sculptures, thus placing their approach at the intersection of these disciplines.
Driven by clay's freedom to shape and inspired by principles
structures of architecture they immerse themselves in formal research, games of balance and assembly, push the complexity and rigor of forms while maintaining the simplicity of the technique - the coil - as much as simplicity materials - red sandstone (the least processed clay commercially available).
Their practice explores the sculptural dimension of utilitarian objects whose aesthetic stems from a desire to make them palpable and less hermetic to the touch while remaining impervious to their content. The realization of each object is driven by the search for balance between its functional and sculptural properties as well as by the idea of doing the maximum with the minimum.
