When I was 10 years old, I saw a potter throwing on a wheel and said "one day, I'll do that too". It wasn't until 25 years later that I put my hands in the clay, and it's been a real passion ever since.
A passion for textures and materials, for glazes and firings.
For utilitarian pieces, I want them to be functional and beautiful: beauty in the everyday. My work is very close to Japanese philosophy. I choose to use grog stoneware, fired at cone 10 in a mixed gas/wood kiln. I make my own glazes and apply them by pouring and/or spraying, layering them on top of each other, so that each piece is totally unique, no two decorations being alike, and the firing finishes the job.
As for the artistic pieces, they usually "beat around the bush" but are in fact sculptures. They are the fruit of a vision. What they have in common is the search for and enhancement of contrasting materials and textures. Thanks to the comprehensive training I have received, I feel free to choose the clay and technique that will best serve the realization of my project.
